Crystal Palace have a tough game this weekend as they travel north to face title contenders Manchester City.
Having failed to win any of their last four Premier League games, Alan Pardew’s side are not in the greatest form, but they’ll still fancy themselves to earn a point, and possibly all three, at the Etihad Stadium.
Injuries have played a huge factor in the Eagles’ recent slump in form, and speaking at his press conference ahead of the game, Pardew ruled out returns for four of his players.
Bakary Sako, Marouane Chamakh and Connor Wickham have all gotten over their injuries, but the manager says they aren’t fit enough to take part in the game.
Connor has had some more work, so he’s a bit closer [to full fitness] and that’s where we are really today. It’s match fitness really, that’s the problem. We can do loads and loads of work at the training ground, but they need to play. We’re trying to get their minutes up, so that will be the key.
Another player who is back in training is striker Dwight Gayle, the man who has been linked with a move away in this window. Despite being back on the training pitch, Pardew admitted that he is still not ready to feature in the game also, but he is expected to be back in the fold very soon.
Gayle has trained this week and will probably be involved for next week’s game – hopefully!
