Chelsea have identified Crystal Palace defender Scott Dann as an ideal summer transfer target, according to the Daily Mail.
Reports have suggested that incoming Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola, will look to bring in Everton’s John Stones as his first summer signing at the Etihad, leaving Chelsea to look elsewhere for defensive reinforcements after their failed pursuit of the England international last summer.
However, one stumbling block is that Palace value the defender at £20m, a price that Chelsea aren’t willing to meet because Dann’s sell-on value will be much lower in the future.
The 29-year-old has recently signed a new five-year deal at Selhurst Park, which will not ease Chelsea’s hopes of getting the Eagles to budge on their reported asking price.
With so much TV money set to be handed out to every Premier League side next season, Palace will be in no desperate need to sell, provided that they halt the terrible run they are on and remain in the top flight, so Chelsea may find themselves frustrated by another English side this summer.
