Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle is set for a move to Newcastle United, according to Sky Sports.

The 25-year-old striker has reportedly agreed personal terms with the Championship club and is expected to have a medical at St. James’ Park later today.

If the medical passes without any problems, Gayle is expected to be included in a swap deal involving Newcastle winger Andros Townsend. Palace have reportedly activated the £13 million release clause in Townsend’s contract, although this has not been officially confirmed.

However, if Gayle is not included in the Townsend swap deal, it is reported that the Magpies will have to pay somewhere in the region of £10 million for the Walthamstow-born striker, who has been Palace’s top scorer in each of the last three seasons and recently signed a new three-year deal in April.

Palace will earn a profit from the deal, having signed Gayle for £6 million from Peterborough United in the summer of 2013. He has scored 26 goals in 74 appearances for the Eagles, most of them coming off the bench for Alan Pardew’s men.

He was on the verge of signing for Championship side Bristol City last summer for a whopping £9 million, but that move fell through and Gayle stayed at Selhurst Park this season. Despite struggling with a series of injuries, he still managed to finish as Palace’s top scorer in all competitions, scoring seven.
