Southampton have joined fellow Premier League outfits Crystal Palace, Swansea and Hull in the race to sign highly-rated Greenock Morton winger Jai Quitongo.

According to the Croydon Advertiser, the Saints are the latest side on an ever-growing list of clubs said to be keen on signing Quitongo in January.

The Scottish side turned down a bid of £100,000 from Doncaster in the summer but with his contract expiring at the end of the season, he’s likely to be sold in January.

A number of Football League sides have also been linked with a move for the teenage attacker, with Brighton & Hove Albion, Preston North End and Wigan Athletic named specifically.

As his contract expires in the summer, it’s believed that Morton could look to cash-in on Quitongo when the January transfer window opens seeing as he could leave for a nominal compensation fee in the summer.

The 19-year-old can negotiate a pre-contract deal with interested parties from January and should a contract be agreed, the move could be made permanent for a fee negotiated between the two parties.

The winger is such a talent that Portugal have asked him to consider playing for their U21 side rather than Scotland.
