Pardew on the brink as methods questioned by hierarchy
Six games which has seen defeat for the Eagles has passed and Alan Pardew is facing increasing scrutiny from fans, pundits and people who can notice bad things when they see them.
13 goals have been conceded from set-pieces in the 13 games this season with a staggering four coming against struggling Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday where Palace suffered a 5-4 defeat after being 4-3 up, going into added time.
The issue of conceding goals from set-pieces has been what that has been alluded to by Pardew in a number of press conferences in the past month, with statements being made that it is something that they are going to work on during training… However, we haven’t seen this change in the slightest.
The Independent report that American investors David Blitzer and Josh Harris have been weighing up their options after a shocking start to the season, with Steve Parish still supporting the under-threat Pardew.
The American duo are said to have ‘serious reservations’ over the methods used by the former Newcastle manager, with this concern mainly coming over the issue of set-pieces.
It is also included in the report that Pardew hasn’t taken on all of the advice which has been given by Blitzer and Harris’ analytics team which has been brought into the club.
Pardew would have had talks with the Palace board by the time the Eagles face Southampton this weekend, according to Mirror Sport, as they seek reassurances that the team will get out of this current slump and not extend their run of defeats to seven.
Sportsmail understands that if results don’t improve by time the Eagles face Southampton and Hull City in the next two weeks, the former Crystal Palace midfielder will not be in the dugout at Selhurst Park when Chelsea visit in mid-December.
However, Telegraph Sport understands that talks with Pardew will be held within the next 24 hours over his future at the club, with Parish allowing the dust to settle and time for thought after the defeat to Swansea over the weekend. It is yet to be seen whether Pardew can purpose enough of a plan to convince Parish and the board that he can turn things around quickly.
