Crystal Palace star suffers major knee injury
Crystal Palace have confirmed that Connor Wickham suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury in last Saturday’s defeat at Swansea.
Wickham went down with an apparent injury early in the second half of the game at the Liberty Stadium and was treated on the field before being stretchered off.
Following an MRI scan, it has been determined that the 23-year-old has suffered an ACL injury to his right knee.
The former Ipswich and Sunderland striker will now undergo reconstructive surgery and there is no immediate timetable for a return. Once he begins his rehabilitation then Palace can start to forecast when they expect Wickham to be able to return to action.
Wickham had made 10 appearances so far this season, scoring on three occasions including in back-to-back Premier League games before the trip to Swansea.
He joins Jonathan Benteke in the physio room as Palace’s long-term absentees in the striker department, but the Eagles are expected to welcome back on-loan Chelsea striker Loic Remy in the near future.
In Wickham’s absence, expect Christian Benteke to play as a lone striker in the immediate future.
