Allardyce admits there is a lot of work ahead for Palace
Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce has admitted that there is a lot of work ahead to avoid relegation, with the Eagles sitting just above the bottom three on goal difference, with the first job being to ‘stop letting goals in’.
The Eagles have had one of their worst defensive performances for quite a number of seasons but are surprisingly not the worst in the Premier League, but it is not only defensive issues that are a concern, with the attackers starting to fall behind in putting the ball into the back of the net.
Alan Pardew was sacked before the new year, with former England manager, Allardyce, taking the reign at Selhurst Park, however in his early days there hasn’t been a sign of much change on the horizion with only one point being picked up from a possible 12 in his first bunch of fixtures.
The January transfer window is proving difficult for the Palace boss, with only half a month left to make his purchases to see him through until the end of the season and attempt to keep the Eagles in the top flight of English football.
‘The whole job’s very difficult at the minute but eventually by the time the window shuts it’ll be us working with them tirelessly to make them better at getting results. The task is first and foremost to stop letting goals in,’ Allardyce said.
‘There’s less players available, everybody wants to keep hold of them and the inflated prices are very difficult to deal with and the packages are very expensive.
‘But when you’re in great need, sometimes you have to go there to make sure you get that you want that might improve the team. Obviously that’s going to be important for us.
‘I was fully aware of the trouble we are in when I got here. When you saw 2016, it’s a long time things haven’t been going well results-wise. That old story about “performances are good” means nothing without results.’
