Have you noticed, the Palace mascot Kayla the Eagle has been absent from Selhurst Park over the last few weeks.

This was due to fears of bird flu. All birds have been ordered against taking flight following restrictions put in place by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

Many people had been questioning Kayla’s absence on social media but thankfully it has since been revealed why she hasn’t been to Selhurst Park of late.

Following an interview with The Evening Standard Sport, Eagle Heights (where Kayla lives) said this: “Kayla is ‘grounded’ due to restrictions for Avian Flu issued by DEFRA. She will be back once restrictions are removed.”

To avoid the spread of bird flu all captive birds must be kept away from their wild counterparts until February 28, so we will have to wait until then to see Kayla flying around Selhurst again. This means supporters may have to wait until Palace’s meeting with Tottenham in the second week of March before they see Kayla again.
