Brentford manager Dean Smith has admitted that promising Crystal Palace winger Sullay Kaikai is a summer target for him.
Smith, as quoted by the Croydon Advertiser, spoke of how he’d be looking to bring in the youngster on a loan deal when the summer transfer window rolls around ahead of next season.
Sullay is a super lad and a super player who did well here. We were really pleased with him. It would have been great to have kept him so he could have continued the season here.
Kaikai spent the first half of the ongoing season on loan with the Bees and emerged as something of a fans’ favourite, impressing them with some excellent performances out on the flank.
But I understand at the time Palace needed players back, but he is certainly a player who would be on our radar (this summer) because how he did here and him doing really well.
However, Palace recalled him in the January transfer window due to concerns over the lack of depth in their attacking options.
Sullay took a while to get used to the pace of the Championship, he’d been playing League Two and League One before that.
The 21-year-old made six starts for Brentford in the Championship and came on as a substitute on 12 occasions, contributing with a respectable three goals and one assist during his short-lived stint with the club.
The Championship is another step up, but once he found his feet you can see the ability he’s got.
Smith will be hoping that he can now lure Kaikai away from Selhurst Park in the summer.
