Crystal Palace goalkeeper Steve Mandanda has taken to social media to deny reports linking him with a move back to his former club Marseille in the summer.
According to a report on the French website footmercato, Mandanda had agreed to re-join Marseille in the summer on a three year deal with an ‘optional year’.
The talks between the clubs were apparently ‘positive’ but Mandanda has said that there was no contact between the two clubs and took to his Facebook account to deny this report.
As you know I rarely take the floor in the media, but I confess that I am surprised by what I read yesterday on footmercato. Indeed, the latter has revealed that an agreement was concluded between Marseille and myself for a return this summer. I’m surprised that footmercato knows more about my future than me. As I have already mentioned a few weeks ago: despite my commitment to Marseille, there is currently no contact between the leaders and me. What is important to me today, is my present and that is Crystal Palace. I focus on my club and our survival in Premier League. My only concern is the effort that my teammates and myself must provide in order to achieve our goals.
He also took to Instagram to say that he was focused on Crystal Palace and the fight to stay in the Premier League.
The French goalkeeper hasn’t played since November 2016 due to a knee injury with many fans questioning whether he will ever play for the club again. But this development suggests that he may well have his sights set on remaining a Palace player next year.
