Benteke could be targeted by Everton

Everton are on the lookout for a new striker, and according to the Daily Mail, they could target Crystal Palace man Christian Benteke.

The Toffees have begun their search for a new front-man after the departure of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United was confirmed today, and it appears as though Benteke is an option under consideration.

It’s stated in the report that Everton have identified experienced Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud as their primary attacking target this summer. However, Benteke is a backup option for Ronald Koeman should his proposed pursuit of the 30-year-old fall through.

Everton have money to spend this summer and with Arsenal seemingly keen on keeping hold of Giroud, there’s a genuine possibility that Benteke will be targeted.

However, Frank de Boer is sure to be keen on retaining his best players this summer and Benteke undoubtedly falls into that category.

The Belgium international enjoyed a positive second half of last season and the Eagles will be hoping he can replicate that next season.
