Crystal Palace are reportedly ahead of Swansea City in the race to sign Gregory van der Wiel this summer.

The Dutchman is keen to leave Fenerbahce in this window and will seek an escape route, which Palace are looking poised to present to him. However, in recent days, Swansea have been linked with a swoop for the 29-year-old, with Paul Clement keen to bolster his defensive options.

According to Turkish news outlet Milliyet, as cited by Football London, though, Palace hold the upper hand in the race for Van der Wiel. This is because of Frank de Boer’s knowledge and relationship with the player.

The pair worked together at Ajax and Van der Wiel enjoyed a lot of success under the experienced Dutchman’s watchful eye. Although Fenerbahce are yet to receive a bid for their want-away defender, a summer exit appears to be the most likely outcome.

The Turkish outfit are ready to listen to offers from elsewhere.
