Crystal Palace failed to record their first points of the season on Sunday as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat away at Burnley.

The Eagles headed into the game sat in 19th place, and they were unfortunate to have remained in the bottom three by the end of the game. Palace will feel as though they had a golden opportunity to take at least a point away from Turf Moor, but missed opportunities and individual errors cost them yet again.

Burnley took the lead within minutes of kick-off. Lee Chung-yong’s back pass failed to reach its intended target, and Chris Wood latched on to the loose ball. The New Zealand international needed no second invitation to tuck the ball away around Wayne Hennessey to heap yet more misery on Palace.

The visitors did have their chances to level proceedings throughout, though. Christian Benteke’s low effort was excellently saved by Nick Pope, and Scott Dann’s header from two-yards out was somehow put wide.

It was not Palace’s day, and the result leaves Frank de Boer’s future at the club under even more scrutiny.
