According to Sky Sports, the former England manager has told them himself that he is nearing an agreement to take the reins at Selhurst Park, but a deal is not yet finalised.
Hodgson, who has already managed four Premier League teams during his long managerial career, has been out of work since handing in his notice at the England national team. This followed a hugely underwhelming European Championships campaign, in which England crashed out against Iceland.
The 70-year-old is set to pen a two-year contract, and will replace Frank de Boer in charge of the club following his dismissal on Monday morning.
De Boer was appointed only in the summer but failed to see his side even score a goal, let alone pick up a point, in the opening four games of his short tenure in South London.
