Crystal Palace are evidently interested in delving into the free agent market following the injury to Christian Benteke.
The Belgian international suffered damaged ligaments in Manchester City’s 5-0 win over Palace, leaving Roy Hodgson without an established, senior striker in his squad.
This has led to the Eagles being linked with the likes of Carlton Cole and Rickie Lambert – two strikers without clubs. Now, it’s claimed by ESPN that Palace are exploring the possibility of signing available Italian striker Alberto Gilardino.
The 35-year-old is currently unattached following his release from Pescara at the end of last season, when they were relegated.
Gilardino is a highly experienced player, who has racked up over 600 appearances throughout his career, with many of these coming at AC Milan.
Hodgson was forced to start with Bakary Sako, naturally a winger, up front in Palace’s recent defeat to Manchester United, and it looks as though he will look to land Gilardino in the near future.
