Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has emphatically denied that he is looking to sign Jack Wilshere from Arsenal in January.
Speaking to reporters, as quoted by ESPN, the former England manager was adamant when claiming that Wilshere is not a player who Palace are considering ahead of the transfer window opening at the turn of the year.
Who has linked him? That’s what you need to find out, because it didn’t come from us. I will tell you who, his agent — because that’s where newspapers get their stories from.
We have never mentioned his name. I work with Dougie Freedman and we talk about potential players, and Jack Wilshere’s name has never been mentioned in this room.
Wilshere has been heavily linked with a move to Selhurst Park in recent times, as he aims to increase the amount of playing time he receives ahead of the 2018 World Cup at the end of the season.
However, it appears as though Palace won’t be his next destination, with Hodgson insisting that the midfielder is not on his radar.
I like him and I think he is a very good player. There may come a time at Crystal Palace where Jack Wilshere would be just the player we are looking for, but I can’t tell you that is the case at the moment.
Palace are, though, looking to recruit new players in January. The Eagles remain in a treacherous position in the Premier League, and are in desperate need of added reinforcements ahead of what promises to be a testing second half of the season.
