Crystal Palace pulled off a surprise result at home to Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles were able to secure a 0-0 draw against the Citizens, who remain unbeaten this season. Palace are now only the second side in the Premier League to have taken points from Pep Guardiola’s side this season.
It was a cagey yet entertaining affair throughout, with both sides coming close on some occasions.
Palace had a golden chance to score in the second-half when the ball found its way to an unmarked Andros Townsend on the left. However, he ballooned his free shot over the bar.
The Eagles were awarded, rather dubiously, a last gasp penalty too. Raheem Sterling was judged to have brought down Wilfried Zaha in the box. Luka Milivojevic stepped up and his penalty was poor, with Ederson saving it with his legs to keep City’s unbeaten league record in tact.
Palace were made to rue their missed opportunities on the day but it was a performance to be proud of. Here are our player ratings.
Wayne Hennessey - 8
Made a quite superb save to deny Leroy Sane. He had a good game between the sticks.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah - 9
Had Sane in his back pocket for the duration of the match. He was even chuckling to himself at one point during the game – Fosu-Mensah knew he was playing a blinder.
James Tomkins - 8
Really strong display from Tomkins. He brought the ball out from the back well and was dominant at the back.
Scott Dann - 6
Stretchered off in the 18th minute. Palace fans will hope his injury is not too serious, but he is set to miss the trip to Southampton.
Patrick van Aanholt - 8
Van Aanholt turned in a hugely impressive display. He was strong defensively and provided the team with an outlet on the left.
Jairo Riedewald - 8
Stepped up to the mark really well. He was excellent in the heart of midfield.
Luka Milivojevic - 8
Was typically impressive in the middle but will be ruing his missed penalty.
Yohan Cabaye - 7
Cabaye’s deliveries often left much to be desired but his relentless work ethic and attitude to the game was top class.
Wilfried Zaha - 9
Excellent. He was a constant nuisance for the City full-backs and his endeavour was rewarded with an admittedly soft penalty.
Andros Townsend - 7
Always looked dangerous and was industrious throughout. He simply had to convert, or at least hit the target, with the golden chance he had, though.
Christian Benteke - 8
An extremely selfless display up front. He led the line very well.
