Crystal Palace fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon, with Harry Kane scoring a personal best record-equalling goal minutes before the final whistle.
Spurs should have scored earlier, but Wayne Hennessey did well to keep the England striker in red hot form at bay.
Early in the second half, Kane missed a huge opportunity to take his side level, skewing his shot wide despite being unmarked from six yards.
However the Golden Boot frontrunner did come through in the end, upsetting the Selhurst Park crowd by heading in a deep Christian Eriksen corner to equal his personal best goal haul in a single season, a record that he achieved last season, of 35 goals across all competitions.
Here’s how we rate the performances of the Palace players from this game.
Wayne Hennessey - 8
An all-round solid display from Hennessey on all accounts. Spared Van Aanholt’s blushes after a mistake from the Dutchman and was unfortunate not to keep a clean sheet after a number of other important saves.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka - 6
Promising display from the debutant, who managed to cope with Eriksen and Erik Lamela relatively comfortably.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah - 7
Didn’t do anything flashy, but certainly did his job solidly.
James Tomkins - 7
Very competent performance from the centre-half, who is going through a purple patch as of right now. Unfortunately withdrawn through injury.
Patrick van Aanholt - 6
Forced Hennessey into action after gifting Tottenham an opportunity, but recovered well.
James McArthur - 5
Largely anonymous for spells, especially in the second half.
Luka Milivojević - 7
Marshalling his midfield well and keeping Dele Alli quiet, Milivojević did a fine job.
Jaïro Riedewald - 5
Fairly serviceable display from the Dutchman, who became more involved as the game went on.
Andros Townsend - 6
Offered attacking impetus with his movement, running and delivery. Confident in possession.
Christian Benteke - 5
Worked defensively but was starved of opportunities up front, little he could do.
Alexander Sørloth - 5
Showing signs, but was farmed out wide so he was very much doing a job for the side, one which he did reasonably well.
Subs -
Damien Delaney – 4
Came on late and failed to deal with Kane.
Lee Chung-Yong – 5
Also came on late, didn’t have time to make an impact.
