It has been reported in the Daily Mail that Crystal Palace are looking to offload striker Christian Benteke this summer.
The £27 million man has had a severely underwhelming season, scoring just two goals in 27 appearances.
Palace boss Roy Hodgson seems to have lost patience with the Belgian international after dropping him to the bench and playing two wingers upfront.
The combination of Townsend and Zaha worked wonders against rivals Brighton, helping them score three goals and take all three points.
When asked about Benteke after the game, Hodgson said:
That’s the best we’ve played going forward for a long time. Why would I say we missed Benteke and his presence? The two players up front caused the Bournemouth defence all sorts of problems.
The Eagles are unlikely to recoup all of the £27million they spent on the former Liverpool man, but they should receive a healthy transfer fee were he to leave.
We’ve taken a look at five strikers Palace could sign as his replacement:
Charlie Austin
Austin is a natural goalscorer and when inside the 18 yard box, there isn’t many better finishers around.
The former QPR man has scored an impressive seven goals in just six starts this season whilst being blighted by injury problems.
It looks as if Southampton are going to be relegated and Austin won’t want to ply his trade in the Championship again.
Tammy Abraham
Abraham is an extremely promising talent who has scored eight goals in 18 starts for Swansea this season.
Despite not being particularly prolific this term, the England international is still just 20-years-old and could be available if Chelsea decide to loan him out for another season.
Mario Balotelli
Balotelli has had previous spells in the Premier League, both good and bad. He left Liverpool in 2016 after scoring just one goal for the club. However he has reignited his career since at Nice in France, scoring 22 goals in 33 appearances this season.
The Italian is out of contract in the summer and will become a free agent, making him available on a free. However, the former Man City striker will demand large wages and has been linked with a move Stateside.
Troy Deeney
Deeney is a legend at Watford, however, he is going through a difficult spell at the moment, taking the brunt of the criticism from Hornets supporters.
The striker has spent an extended spell on the sidelines through suspension this season and hasn’t been in his usual scoring form. A fresh start could be what he needs.
Aleksandar Mitrovic
Mitrovic has spent the second half of the season in the Championship at Fulham, after struggling for game time at Newcastle.
The Serbian striker has lit up the second tier scoring 10 goals in 12 starts for the promotion chasing side.
Mitrovic has shown he is a level above the championship and if Fulham are not to win promotion he could be on the look out for a move to another Premier League club.
