Atletico Madrid are reportedly aiming to hijack Crystal Palace’s impending move for Getafe goalkeeper Vicente Guaita.

According to claims from Spanish news outlet AS, the La Liga giants are keen to recruit the experienced shot stopper as they aim to provide cover for Jan Oblak ahead of next season.

Guaita is out of contract at Getafe in June and was therefore expected to complete a transfer to Palace in the summer, with a pre-contract agreement already reached between the player and the club.

However, it seems Diego Simeone is keen to persuade Guaita against joining the Eagles this summer, with Atletico now in the race.

Palace have long been linked with a move for a new goalkeeper, with Roy Hodgson understood to be keen to sign a new first-choice player in the position given Wayne Hennessey and Julian Speroni’s respective inconsistencies.

Guaita appeared to be the man who would fix this issue for Palace, but Atletico are now reportedly hoping to recruit him themselves.
