# A Past Clash: Pardew and Wenger

In Thursday’s pre-match press conference at Selhurst Park, Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew was asked about a clash between him and his Arsenal counterpart, during his spell as manager at West Ham when in 2006 when his side clinched a late 1-0 victory through a Marlon Harewood goal.

Speaking to the media, Pardew said: “He’s a winner, and so am I. When we clash, we’re going to clash at time, we both want to win, that’s it and it ends there. We are professional football managers but we want to win.”

Arsene Wenger received a £10,000 fine of the Football Association for his actions which amounted to improper conduct due to the aggressive nature of his reaction towards Pardew. The former West Ham boss also received a charge from the FA but he contested it and his appeal was successful, leaving him with no charge to his name.

Pardew apologised to the Arsenal after the incident in 2006 after the pair discussed it, all of which was revealed a week later. A reflective Wenger said at the time: “Alan Pardew apologised because I felt provoked in a disrespectful way in my area. I accept his apologies and life goes on.

“It was a small incident when two managers had a disagreement on a heated incident. I will not demand a hearing because for me the incident is over.

“I will not especially want to travel to the FA for that. I have been on the bench for 22 years. I know when I am right and when I am wrong and that’s it.”
