# International manager wants to call up Crystal Palace striker

Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill has written a letter to Crystal Palace striker Connor Wickham, asking the forward to play for his side, this is according to a report by [Charles Sale of The Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3225708/Connor-Wickham-asked-Michael-O-Neill-play-Northern-Ireland.html).

Wickham has played for England at U21 level but has yet to be selected for the first team and he is available to play for Northern Ireland through his father.

O’Neill is apparently hopeful that Northern Ireland’s position in the Euro 2016 qualifiers could tempt Wickham, as they have a great chance of making it to the summer tournament.

Kyle Lafferty’s very late goal gave Northern Ireland a 1-1 draw with Hungary, which means that they now need just two points from two games, against a poor Greece side and Finland, to make it to Euro 2016.

Wickham could decide to wait for an England call-up, although he looks to be well down the pecking order for that opportunity, so he might be wise to consider the chance to represent Northern Ireland.
