# Ex Palace captain appointed as manager of League 2 side

Former Crystal Palace midfielder – and captain – Shaun Derry [has been appointed](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34790879) as the manager of League 2 side, Cambridge United.

The former Queens Park Rangers and Millwall anchor was in talks with the club’s chief executive, Jez George. The club are looking to replace former boss Richard Money [who departed](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34698304) Abbey Stadium earlier this week.

During his time at Selhurst Park, the 37-year-old England international made over 200 appearances. Derry was spotted making notes at the home of Cambridge when they picked up a 1-0 win in the FA Cup against Basingstoke.

In 2013, Derry was [appointed as the manager](https://www.nottscountyfc.co.uk/news/article/derry-appointed-notts-manager-1158093.aspx) of the club in his hometown, Notts County, but was then sacked in March. Despite a temporary revival up the table during his stay, he was [relieved of his duties](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/mar/23/notts-county-shaun-derry-sacked-league-one) with the team sitting in the same kind of position as they were when he initially joined.

It was believed that Neil Warnock was [interested in bringing Derry](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3310524/Neil-Warnock-keen-bring-former-QPR-midfielder-Shaun-Derry-assistant-Loftus-Road.html) back to Loftus Road to be the assistant manager at the Championship club.

We wish Shaun the best of luck in his new role.
