# Palace linked with move for England defender

Crystal Palace are being linked with a move for Queens Park Rangers defender Steven Caulker, who is currently on loan at Premier League rivals Southampton.

Caulker, who was capped once by England in 2012 – a game in which he scored, has not been featuring regularly for Ronald Koeman’s side, with Jose Fonte and Virgil Van Dijk being the Dutchman’s preferred central defensive duo.

According to [Alex White of the Croydon Advertiser](https://www.croydonadvertiser.co.uk/Exclusive-Palace-eye-January-QPR-star-loan/story-28434688-detail/story.html), Caulker could end his temporary deal at the South Coast early and look to pursue a permanent move to the Premier League.

The report by White says that Norwich and Sunderland are also potential destinations for the 24-year-old, but Palace may be the favourites to acquire him as part of a player-plus-cash deal.

QPR are apparently interested in Palace forward Dwight Gayle and are hopeful that they can do a deal that will be mutually beneficial to both clubs.
