# Palace react to Chelsea star Bamford’s premature exit

Patrick Bamford, who was on loan at Crystal Palace from fellow Premier League side Chelsea, prematurely ended his temporary deal with the Eagles and will head back to Gus Hiddink’s side.

The 22-year-old announced that it was his decision to leave during a post-match interview following the 0-0 draw with Swansea City.

He told Mark Ritson of the [Croydon Advertiser](https://www.croydonadvertiser.co.uk/Chelsea-s-Patrick-Bamford-lifts-lid-early-Crystal/story-28432131-detail/story.html):

> This was my last game for Palace. If I am being honest, my time at the club has been terrible. No one wants to sit on the bench and not play. Things haven’t worked out for whatever reason. I would have been more content if I had been given a chance and not taken it, but I haven’t started a game in the Premier League. For a young player like me, that’s not what you need so I had to take my development into consideration and make it the priority. It is my decision. The coaches have only found out I am going – I think the manager and the coaching staff already knew, people like the physiotherapists. So I have been saying goodbye. It was decision and I think I had to do it because I haven’t been playing. For my development, it’s crucial now I do play games.

Bamford, who was a regular in the Middlesborough side that narrowly missed out on promotion last season, made just six Premier League appearances for Alan Pardew’s side, all of which came from the substitute’s bench.

The reason the striker went out on loan was to get regular playing time that was unlikely to come his way at Chelsea, so he was obviously frustrated to not see more action at Selhurst Park.

Reacting to the news of Bamford’s decision to leave, Palace co-owner Steve Parish said it was a shame to see the youngster leave.

> If that’s what Chelsea and Patrick want to do, that’s what they want to do – he’s been a good lad while he’s been here. It’s a shame it hasn’t worked out for him, he’s got a lot of quality. We’ll have to look at what we do now. He is a good lad and it’s been good having him around the place, so we’ll make a plan now.
