# Delaney – Maybe someone’s put a spell on us!

Crystal Palace defender Damien Delaney says that he feels like his club might have been cursed after a recent run of unfortunate incidents means that their run without a Premier League win has extended to 13 games.

It was Delaney who was adjudged to have fouled Christian Benteke deep into stoppage time which led to the awarding of the penalty kick that ultimately cost Palace a point.

As reported by [Dominic Fifield of The Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/mar/07/crystal-palace-damien-delaney-spell-liverpool), the Irishman said that the run of recent incidents that have gone against his side have been quite difficult to take.

He said:

> You look at some of the goals that have gone in against us as well: the deflection for the first against Sunderland; \[Fabio\] Borini’s equaliser the other night, nine times out of 10 that doesn’t even go near going in. So I don’t know, maybe someone’s put a spell or something on us possibly.

Regardless of what forces are at work, Palace must accept that they are close to being dragged into a relegation battle and Delaney says that although they are still quite far from the bottom three in terms of points thanks to their blistering start, if their bad run continues, then they might find themselves in trouble

> It is a big gap, and there’s a lot of teams involved in it and all of them would need to go on a bit of a run. The way we’re playing, it has to turn, it has to turn … I’ve played in teams where we’ve been bad and we’ve been getting battered. This team haven’t. We’ve been pretty OK, average, but good enough to get better results than we have done and it has to start turning for us. Hopefully this will be a turning point. Lord, Jesus, it’s unbelievable. Just thank God we accumulated so many points so early in the season.
