# James Tomkins injury not as bad as feared

Crystal Palace have received a piece of welcome news this week that defender James Tomkins’s injury is not a major concern.

After learning that left-back Pape Souare faces up to six months on the sidelines with a broken thigh bone suffered in a car crash on the M3 which saw him air-lifted to hospital, Alan Pardew was hoping that Tomkins would not be joining him in the treatment room.

Having scored the opener in the 4-1 win over Stoke last week, Tomkins suffered a hyper-extended knee injury and was taken off during the half-time break and left Selhurst Park on crutches.

“He \[Tomkins\] has a good first half but just over-stretched his knee a little bit when he made a tackle before half-time.” Pardew told reporters after the game, per the [London Evening Standard](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/crystal-palace-injury-news-james-tomkins-leave-selhurst-park-on-crutches-after-being-substituted-a3347936.html).

“We’ll just have to see how it is. Hopefully it’s not too bad.”

However, Palace CEO Steve Parish confirmed that Tomkins’ injury is just a knock and that he’ll be fine (h/t [Croydon Advertiser](https://www.croydonadvertiser.co.uk/big-boost-for-crystal-palace-as-defender-8217-s-injury-not-as-bad-as-first-feared/story-29737071-detail/story.html?)).

“It looks like his knock is ok, after he went off at half time.

“We have had some bad luck with injuries, but hopefully that is starting to turn.”

Tomkins joined Palace in a £10m deal from West Ham in the summer and made his full Premier League debut last week for the club and will look to build on that impressive performance going forward.
