# Palace announce signing of new assistant manager

Crystal Palace have announced the signing of former England and Liverpool assistant manager Sammy Lee, the first man to be added to the backroom staff under new manager Sam Allardyce.

The 57-year-old has worked with Allardyce on numerous occasions, including two spells at Bolton as well as that of his short spell as the England manager. Sammy has also had a spell at Liverpool as assistant manager in 2008 under Rafa Bentiez.

His most recent spell in club football was at Southampton in June 2014 to join Ronald Koeman, leaving the Premier League side in June 2016 following the appointment of Claude Puel. He joined Allardyce at England the following month and left a short time after when Gareth Southgate was appointed as England manager on a full-time basis.

Speaking to cpfc.co.uk about the appointment of Lee, Allardyce said: “I am looking forward to once again working with Sammy. It was great working with him at Bolton and is someone who has a wealth of experience both at club and international level over the years as well.”

The Liverpudlian replaces Keith Millen who was relieved from his duties at the club yesterday, being one of the first departures, alongside goalkeeping coach Andy Woodman, since Allardyce took over the managerial reign.
