# Palace star has stadium named after him

Crystal Palace midfielder Yohan Cabaye is set to have a stadium named after him in his native France.

The commune of Dechy have chosen to name a local stadium after him, to commemorate his achievements for Lille.

Cabaye explained his pride to Lille’s [official website](https://www.losc.fr/actualites-foot-lille/%E2%80%8Bun-stade-ycabaye-bient%C3%B4t-inaugur%C3%A9-%C3%A0-dechy)a following the announcement.

> It is with a certain pride for myself, but also for my parents that I agreed that my name be given to the new city-stadium of Dechy. I found the Mayor’s invitation, Jean-Michel Szatny, really touching and gratifying. It is not every day that you are asked to give your name to a place. It is something that will remain engraved and I take it as a beautiful recognition. I did not hesitate for a second.

The midfielder came through the ranks at Lille and made his senior debut for the side in 2004. The now-Palace midfielder would stay at the club until 2011 before he left for Newcastle.

In 2014 Cabaye left Newcastle to join French giants, Paris Saint-Germain but he was unable to hold down a regular starting place with the Ligue 1 side. The French international joined Palace back in 2015.

He made over 200 appearances for Lille during his time at the club, where he helped them win the Ligue 1 and Coupe de France.

His time at Crystal Palace may not be going to plan on the pitch this season, but the midfielder has something to smile about off it.
