# Frank de Boer explains how he plans to use Loftus-Cheek

New Crystal Palace manager Frank de Boer has admitted Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s knowledge of the 3-4-3 system was crucial in his plans to bring him to the club on loan.

[Football London](https://www.football.london/crystal-palace-fc/news/frank-de-boer-reveals-signed-13359419) reports that the Dutchman is keen to implement the system that was key in Chelsea’s charge to the title last season at Selhurst Park.

> Ruben knows the system and he is a very young lad so he can improve and learn a lot still. I think it’s a quality injection for the squad, and the position he played today was a sitting midfielder but he can also play offensive midfield, so we can use him in a lot of situations.

De Boer took over at [Palace](https://readcrystalpalace.com/) this summer and made Loftus-Cheek, who is in search of regular first-team football in the [Premier League](https://readpl.com/), his first summer signing.

After failing to hold down a regular place in the Chelsea first-team squad last season, Loftus-Cheek fell out of favour, with Antonio Conte attempting to utilise him both as a forward and as a midfielder.

Niggling back injuries kept the midfielder sidelined towards the second half of the season, halting his development.

The midfielder came off the bench to feature in [Palace](https://readcrystalpalace.com/)’s first pre-season game against [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/) yesterday.
