# Crystal Palace remain admirers of James McCarthy

Crystal Palace are reportedly still keen on Everton midfielder James McCarthy.

According to a report from the [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-5203147/Man-United-eye-Borussia-Dortmund-star-Christian-Pulisic.html), the Republic of Ireland international is still a player who the club admire. McCarthy has struggled in the last 18 months at Everton due to recurring injury problems, and a move away from the club has looked like a genuine possibility in recent times.

However, it’s stated that new Everton manager Sam Allardyce is keen to retain the midfielder’s services. McCarthy played in a behind closed doors friendly match for the Toffees, the Daily Mail reports, and Allardyce is claimed to have been impressed by his performance.

Palace are sure to be busy in the January transfer window as they look to boost their hopes of Premier League survival. They are well stocked in the midfield but have long been linked with McCarthy.

The 27-year-old has played just once this season. This came in the Carabao Cup, as Chelsea defeated Everton.
