# Southampton forward Ings struggling for fitness ahead of Palace clash

Southampton could be without star striker Danny Ings when they make the trip to Crystal Palace this weekend.

Saints manager Mark Hughes addressed the media on Thursday afternoon as he looked ahead to the clash with Palace. As quoted by the [club’s official website](https://southamptonfc.com/news/2018-08-30/team-news-mark-hughes-southampton-crystal-palace-premier-league), Hughes delivered an update on the condition of his squad and revealed that Ings has been struggling with a foot problem.

> We’re in a good place in terms of our fitness. For the most part, we’re all available. We’ve got a slight concern with Danny, he’s got a sore foot. We’re going to have to settle that down, he hasn’t been on his feet too much this week.

Hughes is set to have a near-clean bill of health heading into the fixture at Selhurst Park, but Ings’ availability remains uncertain as he continues to nurse a blister on his foot.

Ings was forced off in the second-half of Southampton’s 2-1 home defeat against Leicester City, with an ongoing knock clearly inhibiting his ability to perform at full pace.

> We felt that was the best thing, to take the pressure off the area. Hopefully that’ll allow him to be in a better place in terms of the injury.

Palace will be keen to defeat Southampton this weekend as Roy Hodgson looks to help his side back to winning ways.
