# Hodgson admits Palace need a striker

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has admitted that the club needs to sign a striker this month.

Hodgson revealed this after his side scraped through to the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win over Grimsby.

Despite having 33 shots and over 60% possession against a Grimsby side who were down to 10 men after two minutes, it took a 86-minute winner from Jordan Ayew to secure their passage into the next round.

[Speaking to The Mirror, Hodgson said this:](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/transfer-news-live-arsenal-liverpool-13819015)

> Getting a striker is obviously something we would like because as we’ve seen once again, we can’t do much more in terms of dominating games.

> It’s pretty obvious that if we had that person who score goals from nothing, or scores goals from half-chances, we’d be a lot higher up the Premier League and would have won our FA Cup game a lot earlier.

> It’s early days in the transfer window and everybody knows this is a tough transfer window because clubs aren’t eager to let players go if they’re good enough.

> You’re looking for the rare pearl – someone who is good enough who will make us better who at the same time for some reason is being released by their club.

Palace have been linked with a host of strikers, but recently pulled out of a loan deal for Dominic Solanke – who has now joined Bournemouth on a permanent deal for £19m.

The likes of Sandro Wagner, Neal Maupay and Gabriel Barbosa have also been touted with a move to Selhurst Park.
