# The right backs Crystal Palace should consider signing this month

Crystal Palace [received an initial sum of around £45million](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/11749756/manchester-united-sign-aaron-wan-bissaka-on-five-year-deal-from-crystal-palace) when Aaron Wan-Bissaka left Palace to join Manchester United in the summer, but thr Eagles [did not invest in a replacement right-back](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/crystal-palace/transfers/verein/873), instead choosing to keep faith with Joel Ward.

However, Ward suffered an injury and as such, [Roy Hodgson has relied on Martin Kelly](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/roy-hodgson-relying-on-martin-kelly-to-step-up-as-joel-ward-injury-ramps-up-pressure-on-january-a4300906.html), usually a centre-back, to help cover at right-back.

As reported by [The Athletic’s Dominic Fifiled](https://twitter.com/domfifield/status/1215622154970173440?s=20), Palace have been working on a potential loan deal to bring Tottenham’s Kyle Walker-Peters to Selhurst Park, however, Pete O’Rourke of[Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/tottenham-player-holding-talks-with-two-pl-clubs-this-week/) has reported that Southampton are also in the mix for the Spurs youngster and have also held talks about a possible loan switch.

Hopefully, Palace will be able to complete a deal to sign Walker-Peters but if they can’t and he chooses to move to St Mary’s, the Eagles might need to take a look at other options and we’ve picked out three players who we think should be on the Eagles’ shortlist of alternative options.

### Jayden Bogle

Derby County’s Jayden Bogle has been linked with a move to the Premier League, with four clubs, one of whom being Crystal Palace, [reportedly](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2019/12/24/derbys-highly-rated-full-back-jayden-bogle-targeted-four-premier/) interested in his services. The teenager has pace to burn and offers Derby a lot in terms of attacking width. He has [four assists in 20 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jayden-bogle/profil/spieler/465717) for The Rams, including an excellent cross that assisted [Chris Martin’s goal against Palace](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/jan/05/crystal-palace-derby-county-fa-cup-third-round-match-report) in the FA Cup, and for the [reported](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2019/12/24/derbys-highly-rated-full-back-jayden-bogle-targeted-four-premier/) £7m fee that he’d cost, he could be a very exciting addition.

### Rafael da Silva

Rafael da Silva was linked with a move to Palace earlier this month, with [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11806/11903183/rafael-da-silva-brighton-crystal-palace-and-southampton-offered-former-man-utd-defender) reporting that the Eagles were one of the teams who were considering a move for the Brazilian after being offered the chance to sign him by Lyon. Rafael played[96 league games for Manchester United](https://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=49556) so he should be used to the demands of the Premier League, which is a huge positive as players joining in January might not get much time to acclimatise to the league.

### Joakim Maehle

Last month, [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11700/11889673/joakim-maehle-southampton-consider-move-for-genk-defender) reported that Palace were scouting Genk’s Joakim Maehle, with Southampton also interested in the Danish international. Another player with pace to burn, the [reported asking price of £7.5m](https://www.voetbalprimeur.be/nieuws/910481/vp-11-de-rechtsback-fysiek-monster-ervaring-en-scandinavi-boven.html) could be money well spent for a 22-year-old who has [four assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joakim-maehle/profil/spieler/369674) in the Belgian top flight this season.
