# Palace’s move for Ferguson in the balance after issue during medical

Crystal Palace’s move for West Bromwich Albion defender Nathan Ferguson has hit a stumbling block.

The transfer is now ‘in the balance’ after the defender had a problem during his medical with the Eagles, as reported on [Sky Sports](https://twitter.com/SkySportsPL/status/1223247776659755008).

As stated in the [report](https://twitter.com/SkySportsPL/status/1223247776659755008), Palace are taking a closer look at the knee problem which caused an issue during the medical and will then make their decision.

As quoted on [Football London](https://www.football.london/crystal-palace-fc/news/nathan-ferguson-crystal-palace-stance-17667707), manager Roy Hodgson said:

> He is a player we’ve coveted for a long time, and it is one we’d like to do.

Premier League rivals [Tottenham Hotspur were also linked](https://readcrystalpalace.com/2020/01/02/spurs-leading-the-race-for-palace-target-ferguson/) with a move for the teenager but Palace emerged as the victors of the pursuit.

Ferguson has been a key member of West Brom’s team so far this season, making [21 appearances in the Championship,](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nathan-ferguson/leistungsdaten/spieler/507254) helping them to [second place in the table.](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/championship/table)

The 19-year-old’s versatility is one of his biggest strengths as he can operate as a left-back, right-back or centre-back.

We feel that missing out on Ferguson would be a big blow for Palace because currently, they only have Patrick Van Aanholt and Joel Ward as recognised full-backs, despite centre-backs Jairo Riedewald and Martin Kelly deputising there in recent weeks.
