# Chelsea shortlist Guaita as potential Kepa replacement

Chelsea are looking to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga and Crystal Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita is on their shortlist of targets, according to a report on the [Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/frank-lampard-facing-battle-chelsea-21424081?_ga=2.174796710.524156489.1580831116-1851199216.1576662307).

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is understood to be keen to offload the Spaniard after he dropped him to the bench for the 2-2 draw against Leicester City in their last league match.

Guaita himself endured a difficult weekend, [scoring an own-goal](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/feb/01/crystal-palace-sheffield-united-premier-league-match-report) to hand Sheffield United a 1-0 win at Selhurst Park.

As stated in [the report](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/frank-lampard-facing-battle-chelsea-21424081?_ga=2.174796710.524156489.1580831116-1851199216.1576662307), Burnley’s Nick Pope is also said to be on the Chelsea shortlist.

### READ CRYSTAL PALACE VERDICT

Guaita has six clean sheets in 22 Premier League matches ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/vicente-guaita/leistungsdaten/spieler/64399)), which is one better than Kepa, who has played [24 times in the league](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kepa/leistungsdaten/spieler/192279) this season.

As stated on the [official Premier League website](https://www.premierleague.com/players/7548/Vicente-Guaita/stats?co=1&se=274), Kepa has only made[41 saves and has conceded 32 times](https://www.premierleague.com/players/11373/Kepa-Arrizabalaga/stats?co=1&se=274), whilst Guaita has made 70 saves and conceded just 25.

We feel that these statistics go some way to proving that Guaita is a better shot-stopper than his compatriot. However, we also believe that keeping Guaita is key for Palace’s future because as shown by the stats above, he is a crucial member of the squad.

Manager Roy Hodgson recently showered praise on Guaita for his performances and we feel that the Eagles need to offer him a contract extension soon because his [current deal expires at the end of next season.](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/vicente-guaita/profil/spieler/64399)
