# Erdal Rakip opens up on failed Palace stint

In January 2018, young midfielder [Erdal Rakip joined](https://www.cpfc.co.uk/news/2018/january/erdal-rakip-loan-deal-confirmed/) Premier League side Crystal Palace on a half-season loan from Portuguese side Benfica.

After joining, Rakip [spoke of his delight](https://www.cpfc.co.uk/news/2018/january/rakip-it-feels-amazing-to-be-part-of-a-great-team/) at making the temporary switch to the club and was fit and ready to leave his mark in the top-flight.

However, the Swedish international[failed to make even one appearance](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erdal-rakip/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/230746) for the Eagles.

As quoted on [Fotbollskanalen](https://www.fotbollskanalen.se/allsvenskan/erdal-rakip-i-stor-intervju-om-tuffa-utlandsaret-man-kan-inte-lita-pa-nagon/?utm_source=t.co&utm_medium=&utm_campaign=), he said about his time at Palace:

> At the same time, in Crystal Palace they had many injured and it went well in the beginning and I was on the bench the first five matches. I felt involved and was close.

> Football can go fast. Had there been an injury, they would have been in the starting eleven and played.

> You have to take a chance at life. It was an experience as a player as well.

### READ CRYSTAL PALACE VERDICT

We believe that Rakip looking back on his time at the club with even a slight hint of fondness is odd because he never even got a minute of action at the club.

The 23-year-old is now with Malmo and has played a total of 137 matches for the club, scoring 16 times and registering 13 assists in the process.

We believe that given the chance, he could have been a decent player for the Eagles but manager Roy Hodgson[felt that he just did not have enough quality](https://www.football.london/crystal-palace-fc/players/hodgson-explains-erdal-rakip-palace-14910245) to make it in the first-team.
