# Ian Wright believes Palace ‘need’ a player like Sorloth

Former Arsenal and Crystal Palace striker Ian Wright believes that the Eagles need a player like Alexander Sorloth in their squad.

The Norway international forward was[allowed to leave Selhurst Park](https://www.cpfc.co.uk/news/2019/august/alexander-sorloth-joins-trabzonspor-on-loan2/) on a two-season loan deal to Turkish side Trabzonspor, where he is in fine goalscoring [form](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alexander-sorloth/leistungsdaten/spieler/238407).

Wright feels that the Premier League side were maybe too hasty in their decision and that they could do with his services at the moment.

Whilst speaking on [BBC 5 Live Sport’s The Monday Night Club (10 Feb 2020)](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000f679), Wright said:

> We’re looking at Sorloth, he’s gone to Trabzonspor, and I know that he wasn’t quite kicking off here, but as a striker, you kind of just wait, because something might happen.
>
> Now he’s got something like 21 goals in something like 32 games, you need something like that at Palace.

### READ CRYSTAL PALACE VERDICT

Palace opted [not to include a recall clause](https://readcrystalpalace.com/2020/02/04/sorloth-cant-be-recalled-from-loan-spell-in-the-summer/) in the deal and also gave the Super Lig side the option to sign Sorloth on a permanent basis at the end of the loan [for just €6m.](https://turkish-football.com/monaco-scout-19-goal-crystal-palace-striker-alexander-sorloth-but-turkish-side-have-e6m-option-to-buy/)

We believe that Wright is spot on with his comments because Sorloth himself has[21 goals this season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alexander-sorloth/leistungsdaten/spieler/238407), whilst Palace only [have 23 in the league](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) this campaign.

This may be a bitter pill to swallow for Palace because [Hodgson knows](https://readcrystalpalace.com/2020/02/08/hodgson-bemoans-palaces-lack-of-goals-this-season/) that finding the net has been a big problem for his team recently.

The inclusion of the option to buy him for only €6m could end up being a costly mistake because, after this season’s performances, Sorloth’s value only looks to be heading in one direction, meaning the Turkish side could make a neat profit on the 24-year-old.

There’s already interest in the attacker from [Aston Villa](https://readcrystalpalace.com/2020/02/05/palace-striker-sorloth-attracting-interest-from-aston-villa/) and[AS Monaco](https://turkish-football.com/monaco-scout-19-goal-crystal-palace-striker-alexander-sorloth-but-turkish-side-have-e6m-option-to-buy/), so maybe the forward deserved a bit more time to get it right at the club, just like how Christian Benteke has been given [chance after chance](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christian-benteke/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/50201) to get it right at Selhurst Park.
