# Palace fans full of praise for Benteke

Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke retained his[starting spot](https://twitter.com/CPFC/status/1231217228651094016)for the club for their [1-0 victory](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51512521)over Newcastle United.

Patrick Van Aanholt’s [stunning free-kick](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51512521) provided the three points for the Eagles but it was a victory that demanded a high work rate from almost everyone on the field.

Benteke, who [started as the lone man](https://twitter.com/CPFC/status/1231217228651094016) up front, did well to pressurise the Newcastle backline on multiple occasions and provided a threat from set-pieces.

He was a towering figure in attack and was hard to handle, proven by the fact that he won eight aerial battles in the 88 minutes that he played ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1376127/LiveStatistics/England-Premier-League-2019-2020-Crystal-Palace-Newcastle-United)).

The Belgian international’s defensive contribution was also good, [making three clearances](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1376127/LiveStatistics/England-Premier-League-2019-2020-Crystal-Palace-Newcastle-United), which was the second-most in the entire Palace team.

Many of the club’s fans took [to Twitter](https://twitter.com/chrisbenteke/status/1231589043391148032?s=19) to praise the striker, who has only scored one goal this season in 19 appearances across all competitions ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christian-benteke/leistungsdaten/spieler/50201)).
