## Pierre Sage Gets Final European Test Before Everton

The fixture gives Sage a useful marker before competitive football returns. Freiburg finished seventh in the Bundesliga last season and qualified for the UEFA Conference League, making them a sharper final checkpoint than a routine friendly.

For Palace, the timing matters. Sage is inheriting a squad already balancing domestic work, a European calendar and World Cup-conditioned players returning at different speeds.

That makes the Freiburg match a practical stress test for structure, fitness and selection before the trip to Merseyside.

The announcement also adds another layer to a pre-season schedule that already includes the Como Cup preparation block. For supporters, the Germany trip now gives the summer a clearer final checkpoint before Sage’s first Premier League test.
