# Crystal Palace Co-Owner David Blitzer Backs £1bn Philadelphia Arena Project

There is always something happening across the sprawling multi-club portfolios of modern football investors, but Crystal Palace co-owner David Blitzer is currently making headlines closer to home with a staggering £1bn arena project.

The American billionaire who made history as the first investor to hold stakes across all five major North American sports leagues in MLS, MLB, NFL, NHL, and NBA [is pumping serious money](https://www.cityam.com/crystal-palace-owner-blitzer-part-of-1bn-mega-stadium-redevelopment/) into a state-of-the-art stadium development in Philadelphia slated to open in 2030.

## A New Home in South Philadelphia

Under this major project, Blitzer’s Philadelphia 76ers basketball franchise will move out of their long-term tenant status and become equal 50-50 partners alongside Comcast Spectacor. The two organizations will team up under the Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE) umbrella to share a brand-new arena in the south of the city, which planners hope will also host a future women’s NBA expansion franchise

The massive venue is set to sit right alongside some iconic local sporting neighbours: the Philadelphia Eagles’ Lincoln Financial Field and the Philadelphia Phillies’ Citizens Bank Park.

Design duties have been handed to Populous—the renowned architectural firm behind Fulham’s Riverside Stand, Wembley Arena, and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium—alongside nationally acclaimed architect Moody Nolan.

**“Building something of this scale takes a village. I’m honoured to serve as chairman of this joint venture and thrilled to collaborate with my longtime partners Josh Harris and David Blitzer, HBSE CEO Tad Brown, and our partners at Comcast and the Flyers, Brian Roberts and Dan Hilferty,” US businessman David Adelman said.**

**“Together, with global design firm Populous and nationally acclaimed architect Moody Nolan, we’re working to create one of the most technologically advanced venues in the country, delivering a world class experience while generating hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenue for the city of Philadelphia and its School District.”**

## From South London to a Global Empire

While Palace fans know Bl best for his investments in South London, his footprint in world football is massive.

Through Global Football Holdings, Blitzer holds interests not just in the Eagles, but also in Germany’s FC Augsburg, Denmark’s Brondby IF, Portugal’s Estoril Praia, Belgium’s Beveren, Spain’s Alcorcon, and Dutch side ADO Den Haag.

Back in 2017, Blitzer co-founded HBSE alongside Josh Harris, the co-founder of Apollo Global Management. Together, that sports group has grown into a juggernaut. Now, with a reported net worth of $4bn, Blitzer is turning his attention toward reshaping the sports landscape in Pennsylvania with a venue designed to deliver a world-class fan experience and a massive financial boost for the local community.
