Crystal Palace have sacked manager Neil Warnock after yesterday’s 3-1 defeat against Southampton at Selhurst Park.
After taking over the reigns at the South London club in August, the 66-year-old managed the side to only three wins in 16 Premier League games.
It has been confirmed that Keith Millen will take temporary charge of the side until a replacement is found. The Croydon-born assistant manager has had three previous stints as caretaker manager, continuing the board’s faith in the man to help keep the side in order and with the hope of a few points from the next couple of games against Queens Park Rangers and Aston Villa.
The decision to sack the former Leeds manager was taken this morning by Steve Parish after sleeping on his thoughts when he decided that a change was necessary. Neil Warnock was Crystal Palace’s third manager in the past year-and-a-half after Ian Holloway resigned in October 2013 and Tony Pulis left days before the start of this season.
A statement by Crystal Palace this afternoon read: “Crystal Palace Football Club can today confirm that Neil Warnock has been relieved of his duties and is no longer first-team manager.
The club would like to put on record its thanks to Neil for all his hard work and energy over the past four months.”
Eagles co-chairman Steve Parish will now be implementing a process that will help him and his fellow board members find a suitable replacement for Neil Warnock and one which they will have to be able to show belief in by giving them enough money to fill in the cracks and keep Palace in the Premier League for a second season.
