Following the departure of Neil Warnock our friends at Holmesdale Radio spoke to Mark Bright. Below is a summary of what he had to say. You can listen to the interview in full at the bottom of this article.
You saw yesterday the second half the Holmesdale Fanatics just silent. Silent. Like a silent protest. I’ve never seen anything like that from them and they’ve been amazing since administration. It just spoke volumes to whats going on, maybe people have lost patience. A run of 1 win in 11 or 12 games. We’re coming to the half way stage of the season now. Nineteen games and 15 points with a chance of winning tomorrow which would take us to 18 points which wouldn’t be too bad. That’s much more than what we were last year but we had an amazing second half of last season.
We chatted last night (to Steve Parish) after the game and that was it this morning. The decision was made and now it’s to the who next. I think what you have to say is Neil took up the job with little notice and little time to prepare. In September we had two wins and a draw which was a good month for us. But apart from that we’ve only three wins. Burnley I expected to beat. Hull regardless if they’ve spent a lot of money we expected to get something from.
Lets look back and look at the playoff final. We get to the premier league and stay in the premier league. Look at the club who are not to far away and we hardly mention (Brighton). Look at their fortunes and how they have changed. They could have been the team in the premier league and now they’re struggling to stay in the championship. It’s not all doom and gloom for us, we are in the league we want to be in, just not in the position we want to be in. Everybody knows that. Do I think this team survive? YesI do! I absoloutely do 100%.
I go down the training ground, and I go down most weeks. I chat to the players and I chat to the younger boys. I have to say, the atmosphere all the way through the boys have maintained a level. Everybody wants to do well, they’re still together. We were three nil down yesterday (26th Dec). Delaney and Dann were throwing themselves in front of the ball and blocking it like we were one nil up or something. The spirit is still there within the team. Hopefully now we can just kick on.
When asked who should be the new manager.. ‘Jose Mourinho’. Er no. Listen, last time it took a long time. I don’t think we have that time this time. I spoke to Steve this morning. I don’t think he would gamble with an overseas manager. I think that he would want somebody he knows the league. You have to know this league. There are certain things you just need to know.
We need to get somebody and quick and that person needs to identify areas that need strengthening. Most people know that we need a left back. Zeki hasn’t lived up to what we thought he would and he hasn’t pushed for a first team place. Joel Ward hasn’t complained about playing there. It’s a credit to him and his professionalism. He will just pick up the reigns and go there.
What we need to do know is say this is how we’re going to play. This is how we’re going to prepare. This is what we’re going to do like we did last year which is cause teams problems. We’re going to cause teams problems on the counter. We’re going to make ourselves hard to beat. We’ve had three clean sheets, against ten last year, so far. So there is a lot we could wish for, if you like, but a lot of it we can say we can get this back. I believe the players they’ve got it amongst them to get it back to where we were last year.”
