Yesterday morning, Australia enjoyed the perfect start to their Asia Cup campaign being hosted on home soil as the side captained by Palace midfielder Mile Jedinak.
The home side came back from a goal down to win 4-1 in Melborune with club captain Jedinak scoring the third of the four goals in the second half with a penalty after Robbie Kruse was brought down inside the area, gifting the 30-year-old with his seventh goal for his country in 53 appearances.
Australia’s next game in the competition is against Oman in three days, a side who lost their opening game against the Korea Republic 1-0 this morning; the hosts are top of Group A with that result in consideration on goal difference, giving them every hope of progressing further into the tournament in what is a simple group for the Socceroos.
Jedinak is the third Eagles player to score on international duty this month after Kwesi Appiah and Yannick Bolasie scored for their respective countries in warm-up matches for the African Cup of Nations on Wednesday night.
