Crystal Palace skipper Mile Jedinak picked up another award this morning for his efforts last season as he was crowned the Professional Footballers Australia Footballer of the Year.
This award is the midfielder’s second award for 2013/14 as late last month he was given awarded with the Asian Confederation’s International Player of the Year award after his efforts for both club and country in the past year with highlights such as Australia’s positive World Cup campaign after being drawn in a group alongside teams such as Spain and the Netherlands.
Jedinak was nominated for the award at the start of last week alongside Mark Bresciano, Tim Cahill, Matthew Leckie, Mark Milligan, Mat Ryan and Matt Spiranovic but managed to win the votes of his fellow countryman as he was given the award this morning in Brisbane.
The Eagles and Australia captain made a full season of appearances in the Premier League for Crystal Palace last season with impressive defending statistics, joining some of Europe’s elite in the defending rankings; Jedinak also managed to score once towards the end of the season for Tony Pulis’ side against West Ham United when the Eagles were in impressive form whilst also contributing to a couple of goals throughout the season as well.
Jedinak also contributed to Australia’s successful season, making nine appearances that were shared between both friendly and World Cup fixtures; he scored two goals for the side that is currently hosting the AFC Asian Cup with one in a defeat to Ecuador and the other against Holland, making him the first Crystal Palace player to score in the tournament’s history.
Upon receiving the PFA Footaballer of the Year award, Jedinak said: “Looking through the list of former winners and to now have my name amongst them is something that is truly humbling.
“Last season was a very special one for me both on a club and country level. To lead my club in the Premier League and the Socceroos at a World Cup was a dream come true and this award just tops it off.”
