Shola Ameobi is the latest player to be linked with a move to Selhurst Park in a move that could see him reunited with Alan Pardew but the new Crystal Palace manager faces competition from a former manager of the club, reports the Daily Mirror.
The Eagles are set to do battle with West Brom over the signature of the player and with Ameobi being a free agent after leaving Turkish side Gaziantep at the end of 2014, a club that he had been at since leaving Newcastle in August on a free transfer where Alan Pardew managed him as a player for four years when the Wimbeldon born manager joined the club.
Palace fans have been calling for a new striker for a number of months, since the summer transfer window closed but since Pardew’s arrival at Selhurst Park the strikers have been clicking with them scoring eight of the Eagles’ 12 goals over the past four games – seeing the club progress to the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time in five years whilst also boosting the South London side to 13th in the Premier League table.
Crystal Palace are believed to have offered the 33-year-old a better deal compared to their West Brom counterparts, leaving the striker with a decision to make.
