Alan Pardew’s side have been in marvelous form in the past month, picking up four wins in four games across all competitions, giving Crystal Palace fans a new sense of belief after the abysmal form under former manager Neil Warnock who claimed this week that, “If they’d sacked me three weeks before, they’d be in Europe.”
The Eagles have a fairly good record when it comes to sides from Liverpool and despite famous victories in recent years against the main side in the city, Everton have also been subject to surprising results with the most memorable being the re-arranged game at Goodison Park towards the end of the season where Crystal Palace picked up a 3-2 win against a fourth placed Toffees, that very much ensured that the South London club would remain in the Premier League for the current campaign.
That result result was replicated at the start of this season at Goodison Park when Nil Wanrock managed his side to its first victory in his second stint at the club with goals from Mile Jedinak, Fraizer Campbell and Yannick Bolasie leaving the travelling Palace fans feeling glad all over but sadly for Neil Warnock – his career at the club didn’t continue or finish that way.
Super Alan Pardew
Crystal Palace have been forced to comeback from behind in three of Alan Pardew’s first four games as manager with the most recent being the sharing of goals within the opening stages of the game against Southampton in the FA Cup last Saturday; the run includes comebacks against Burnley and Tottenham where the Eagles left it late in both games to score the winning goal, completing the comeback after the 80th minute.
It turns out this isn’t new as during his time at Newcastle this season before joining Crystal Palace, Alan Pardew managed to claw back ten points from losing positions in his previous employment and combined with his six at the helms of his former playing club he tallies up a total of 16 – the highest amount of points won by any Premier League manager from a losing position this season with only Pochettino coming close with 12 points.
The 53-year-old has even managed to complete a double comeback against two sides with those being against Tottenham and Burnley, both of which were his first comeback victims at Crystal Palace. Other teams that Pardew’s sides have completed comebacks against include Everton, Hull, Swansea and his current side Palace whilst he was in-charge at Newcastle.
It’s not only the comebacks that have been noticed whilst Pardew has taken the reigns at Selhurst Park as he has also got the team scoring goals, something that they had been struggling with this season before his arrival with only an average 1.13 goals per game (25 in 20) compared to the 3 goals per game currently in the run of 12 goals in four games.
