Garry Issott’s side extended their unbeaten run to three games today after securing their second win today against Ipswich at the KNK Stadium with a goal from Connor Dymond, who scored a late equaliser for Crystal Palace last week in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Swansea last week.
The result means that the young Eagles side completed the double over Tractor Boys this season, allowing Palace to continue their push for a play-off place at the end of this current campaign.
After a quiet and scrappy 13 minutes of the game, a corner crossed into the box by Hiram Boateng found Dymond who was playing at right-back today away from his preferred position in the center of midfield found the bottom corner of the goal with a powerful header, handing his side the lead after Glenn Murray won the corner.
It took half an hour for Ipswich to have their first shot on goal in the game with Palace dominating proceedings in both the first and second half, leaving the visitors happy to leave the KNK Stadium with just conceding a goal. That first shot was taken by right-back Kyle Hammond but his shot failed to trouble Chris Kettings who was in goal for the Eagles, as the shot went wide.
He was called into action again by the opposition not long after as Cameron Steward managed to put a run together past Palace’s back-line, seeing his shot deflect off former Palace skipper Paddy McCarthy head towards goal where the Scottish keeper was forced into a save by tipping he ball over the bar and for corner.
Despite those chances, Issott’s side continued to dominate the game with a number of opportunities for Palace to to increase their lead as Murray had a goal disallowed for offside when he managed to lob the Ipswich goalkeeper before McCarthy nearly got himself onto the scoresheet after meeting Jake Gray’s ball into the box with the reaction of Michael Crowe in the Tractor Boys’ goal stopping the attempt on goal.
The domination continued in the second half with Palace overwhelming the Ipswich defence with a large number of attempts, but sadly none of them were much of a threat to Crowe who was by far his sides’ man of the match by keeping them in with a shout.
Murray also continued to be a threat in the second half after having a goal disallowed earlier on in the game as he forced Crowe to make a save with his legs before the games’ only goal scorer had another shot on goal, forcing the goalkeeper to tip the ball over the net.
Crystal Palace travel to Charlton Atheltic on Monday as they look to continue their fight for a play-off place ahead of a vital game against Cardiff City on 9th March.
