Having a contract as a footballer at a Premier League club is something that most players dream of when they are rising through the ranks, and for Kwesi Appiah it is something that he has achieved whilst also playing for his national side in the African Cup of Nations.
The success that lead the 24-year-old in being called up to the Ghana squad though was his performances for Cambridge United, where he had spent the first part of the season on loan after being told he was surplus to requirements by manager at the time Neil Warnock.
He made 19 appearances for the U’s during his three-month loan spell before joining Reading for the final months of the season after impressing manager Steve Clarke during under-21 performances for the Eagles, seeing him score four goals in two games.
Despite his success at other clubs during his time at Crystal Palace, the forward has failed to achieve much at the club he is contracted to and many would think, would try and impress manager Alan Pardew in pre-season to push himself for a regular place in his Premier League team. The player does seem to have other thoughts though, as when asked in an interview whether he would like to return to Reading next season he said:
“You never know, that door is hopefully open. It’s down to the gaffer (Steve Clarke) what squad he wants next season.
“If he does come forward for me then it’s down to Crystal Palace whether or not they let me do that. I’ve got another two years on my contract.
“But I will be happy to come back next season if that opportunity comes.”
