Palace are set to open contract talks early with midfielder James McArthur, the Scotsman joined the Eagles last September and instantly became an integral part of the team. After joining from Wigan for a reported club record fee McArthur managed to rack up 33 appearances last season scoring twice.
The Scotland international signed a three year contract but it seems Palace are willing to offer improved terms to fend off interest from other clubs. Newly promoted Norwich are interested in bringing the former Hamilton midfielder to Carrow Road where he would pair up with former teammate Alex Neil, who is now Norwich manager.
McArthur’s career began in Scotland where he came through the youth at Hamilton, after serious interest from Celtic he chose to move to England and his destination was Wigan. McArthur picked up huge plaudits whilst under the stewardship of Roberto Martinez, after relegation in 2014 the energetic midfielder opted to stay at the club and try to help guide them back into the Premier League but he was unsuccessful and a move to the Premier League was on the cards.
Nigel Pearson and Leicester had been working all summer to try and tempt McArthur to the Midlands club but after a late bid from Neil Warnock and Palace he decided to move to London. McArthur instantly became a fans favourite and was a shining light even through a bad period of form in the League. Game time was harder to come by after the appointment of Alan Pardew but his form didn’t drop and performed to a high level when called upon.
